Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit”: The sophisticated comedy, about a rich novelist who invites an eccentric medium to his house hoping to find fodder for a new book. The idea backfires when the ghost of his annoying first wife appears and his current wife can’t see or hear the spirit. “In the Heights”: Village Theatre brings this Tony award-winning hip hop musical with a salsa beat to the Everett Performing Arts Center Oct. 31 through Nov. 23. “Rex’s Exes”: This funny, Southern-fried farce by Jones Hope &Wooten, brings back home the Verdeen cousins of Sweetgum, Texas, with outrageous complications. “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: A New Musical”: The world premiere of this new version of the well-loved old story will be staged Oct. 31 through Nov. 23 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. The musical is based on the L. Frank Baum books and Baum’s own musical from 1902. Most people have seen the 1939 movie version, but this new version takes people on an adventure that includes even more magic.
