Local actress joins Broadway musical
Caitlin Kinnunen, a 16-year-old Camano Island resident, is off to New York City this week to begin rehearsals for her Broadway debut in the Tony award-winning new musical “Spring Awakening.”
She’ll arrive in New York next week with her mother, and make The Big Apple her home as she takes on the role of Thea, joining the large ensemble of this long-running smash-hit show.
Caitlin has performed since she was 5, including her role as Annie on Village Theatre’s main stage at 11. She’s gone on to progressively more regional theater, including ensemble roles in “Wonderful Town” and “High School Musical,” as well as Mary in “Secret Garden” and Amy in “Little Women.”
WICA season
Whidbey Island Center for the Arts’ 2008-09 season comes complete with a crazed barber, a comic romp and a classic.
The season starts in October with Stephen Sondheim’s sweeping tragedy “Sweeney Todd,” about a wronged barber who returns to London to cut throats as well as hair. December brings “Inspecting Carol,” a comedy about an actor mistaken for an informer for the National Endowment for the Arts. In February, there’s “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead,” a Tom Stoppard play that gives a different perspective on Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” In April, “Rabbit Hole” follows a family’s struggle after the accidental death of their 4-year-old. The season ends in June with the action-packed “Franklin and Figaro,” about playwright Pierre Beaumarchais in a fast-paced comedy featuring a cross-dressing cast of eight.
