The timeless tale of “Beauty and the Beast” is going to be bold and brand new when Village Theatre unveils its new production — the first professional production of this show in the region.
Tickets go on sale Dec. 3 for a Jan. 9 opening at Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. The show will run 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7 p.m. selected Sundays through Feb. 1. Tickets are $16 to $51.
This “Beauty” will be directed and choreographed by Village Theatre artistic director Steve Tomkins (“Aida,” “The King and I”). The creative team includes Alex Berry, scenic and lighting designer, and Deanne Middleton, costume designer. Berry is a lifelong resident of Issaquah, where Village Theatre is based, and has been part of Village Theatre from its first year. “Beauty and the Beast” will mark his 80th show, and audiences will find his scenic and lighting designs to be intricate and reminiscent of the Disney feature film, according to a Village Theatre press release.
Village Theatre also put its own finishing touches on all the colorful costumes, most prominently in the look of The Beast, who will be so realistic he will be allowed some expressive facial movement.
