“The Sketchbook Series” by Everett watercolorist Ron Stocke opens Tuesday at Solovei Art Gallery, 2804 Grand Ave., Everett; 425-258-8100.
An opening reception is planned for 2 to 6 p.m. April 5.
Stocke’s landscapes include nature, cities and sea. In the Solovei show, scenery from Northwest cities are featured, as well as scenes from England and Ireland, where the artist traveled last year.
All the paintings started as light sketches in Stocke’s sketch book, which also will be on display.
Photography: Deception Pass Art Gallery’s featured artist for the month of April will be Whidbey Island photographer Russell Chandler, who has traveled the world capturing images. Deception Pass Gallery is located at 40751 Highway 20 in Oak Harbor, one mile south of the Deception Pass Bridge on the road’s west side; 800-934-9438, www.DeceptionPass-Info.com or www.DeceptionPass-Art.com.
Acrylic exhibit: Human Nature, original acrylic paintings by Enid Smith-Becker, are on display through April 15 at Autumn’s Framing &Gallery, 537 Main St., Edmonds; 425-778-5150, www.autumnsframing.com. Smith-Becker’s recent work explores the connections between human forms and the natural world, using layered imagery. Images we don’t always associate with one another are juxtaposed to create a poetic narrative giving fresh perspective on both.
Mixed media: The Edmonds Arts Festival Museum and the Edmonds Arts Commission will present works by Marita Dingus from Thursday through April 29. “I make mixed media sculpture out of discarded materials,” Dingus said of her work. “The sculpture takes the form of relics from the African diaspora. I use discarded materials because I see people of African descent as being used during the institution of slavery and then discarded.”
A reception is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 17 at the gallery, located in the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds; 425-771-1984.
“Suite Dreams”: Northwest Fine Woodworking presents a new exhibition, “Suite Dreams,” opening during the Pioneer Square First Thursday event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The exhibition will highlight fine studio furniture, hand crafted for the bedroom by artisans from the Northwest. The show runs through April 25 at the gallery, 101 S. Jackson St., Seattle; 206-625-0542, www.nwfinewoodworking.com.
