Strawberry festival has it all

Rain or shine, this third weekend of June is all about berries in Snohomish County.

The 79th Marysville Strawberry Festival returns with a weekend of entertainment, a parade and fireworks.

Live entertainment includes a hypnotist, the Reptile Man and many musical groups. A pocket-sized, printable entertainment schedule is available at www.maryfest.com with more details.

Notable festival features include:

Carnival, starting at 3 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday and Sunday, Marysville Middle School; Liberty Street and 10th Street.

Market in the Park, 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Asbery Field, Sixth Street and Alder Avenue.

Car show, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Asbery Field.

Kiddies parade 6 p.m., grand parade 7:45 p.m., both on Saturday; grand parade starts at 76th and State, proceeds south to Third Street, then east to Alder.

Meanwhile, a “Berry Fun Strawberry Festival” will enliven Biringer Farm in Arlington from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to strawberries, this weekend on the farm offers pony and trolley rides, puppet shows and inflatablesfor kids to enjoy. Small fees apply for some activities.

Given June’s unpredictable weather, potential visitors should check online at www.biringerfarm.com or call 425-259-0255 for both berry and event status before making the trip. Details on activities and the schedule also are available on the website and at that phone number. The farm is at 21412 59th Ave. NE, Arlington.

This festival is the first of Biringer’s summer events for the public.

Next will be July 24 and 25, when the farm takes part in Red Rooster Days, a series of family-friendly activities at several Snohomish County farms off I-5, Exit 208, in Arlington. See www.redroosterroute.com for details on other participating farms.
