Mack Strong always was a class guy. He was one everyone looked up to. I’ve always said that the Seahawks are the best of any professional team I’ve dealt with in a working situation. I think Strong had a lot to do with that. He recognized that we have a job to do. I always thought that he felt lucky to be in the business he was in and believed in showing his gratitude in every way possible. One was to be cordial to the media, which is not always a pleasant task. But in doing so, I think he set the tone for his teammates.
I’ll always remember Strong as a survivor. Every year, the Seahawks drafted someone to take Strong’s place and every year he’d send the competition packing. He did it through hard work and a willingness to do whatever it took to stay. If that meant extra time in the weight room, that’s what he’d do. If it meant playing special teams, he’d do that as well. It’s difficult to think of a less selfish and more team-oriented professional athlete.
