Everett student makes honor roll

Kaitlin De Jong of Everett was added to the fall semester president’s honor roll at the University of Great Falls in Montana.

Students advance in writing competition

Four students won the Everett Elks National Essay Contest.

Students were asked to write an essay titled “Why I’m proud to be an American.”

Adam Sirkis of View Ridge Elementary received first place for fifth- and sixth grades.

Gateway Middle School’s Reigina Apuya received first place, Sierra Booth was awarded second place and Erica Kim took third place for seventh- and eighth-grades,

Winners have advanced to the state level for further judging. Each received certificates and prizes from the lodge.

At the state and national level, students have a chance to win $250, $500 and $1,000 savings bonds.

Rotary names students of month

Jose Alcaraz was named the December student of month by the Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club. He attends ACES High School in Everett and was nominated for exemplary behavior and attendance.

Jose enjoys drawing, computers, running, board games and traveling, and aspires to become a CAD artist and computer engineer.

The Rotary Club of South Everett-Mukilteo also chose Rachel Varner as its December student of the month. After high school, Rachel plans to attend college. She is undecided about her major, but plans to focus on math and science.

She was honored with a plaque in recognition of academic accomplishments, athletics and community service.
