Students awarded music scholarships

The Stanwood Camano Area Foundation has awarded scholarships in memory of Bruce Kollmar and Jon L. Metzger.

Bruce Kollmar was the former band director for Stanwood High School. He retired in 1983 after 26 years of service in the Stanwood School District. This year’s recipients of the Bruce Kollmar scholarships are Stanwood High School juniors Marissa Van Ry and Matthew Rockwood. Marissa has played piano for five years. Matthew is active in multiple bands.

Jon L. Metzger was an avid musician who made his living in a local shop building guitars and repairing instruments. This year’s recipients of the Jon L. Metzger scholarships are Ruthie Karlberg, Isaac Colby, Abigael Addis and Alyssa Worley. Ruthie is in eighth grade at Port Susan Middle School and is a member of four school bands. Isaac, Abigael and Alyssa all attend Stanwood Middle School, where they are involved in various school bands.

The Music Scholarship recipients will use their funds to pay for music, instruments or private lessons to further their talents.
