Arlington students of month named

The Rotary Club of Arlington has named its students of the month for October.

Students who were honored received $50 vouchers to donate to a nonprofit organization at their school or in the community.

The following students were recognized:

Robert Haynes, a junior at Arlington High School, has been active in the school’s robotics team for the past two years. He juggles multiple responsibilities as the financial officer for the program and helps with the completion of various forms.

Justin Smith, a senior at Darrington High School, has lettered in football, wrestling, track and field and swimming.

He challenges himself by taking classes such as college English and precalculus. He finds the time to tutor other students.

Caitlyn Darrah is a senior at Lakewood High School. She has a positive attitude, works outside school at her parents’ restaurants and volunteers.

She also plays basketball and is involved in many aspects of the school life.

EvCC students take part in conference

Nine students and two instructors from Everett Community College’s Ocean Research College Academy attended the Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference last month in Vancouver, B.C.

More than 800 students participated in the biennial conference.

Students presented their State of Possession Sound research.

Breanne Ward and Bryan “Tag” Jacobson placed second in the student poster competition, where most of the presenters were graduate students and college seniors with thesis projects.

Snohomish grad to go to Cottey College

Snohomish High School graduate Paige Ott has been admitted to Cottey College in Nevada, Mo.

Cottey College is an independent women’s school that offers two-year and four-year degrees in liberal arts and sciences.

In high school, Ott was active in music programs, U.S. Marine Corps Junior ROTC and horseback riding. She also received honors and awards.

She is the daughter of Leslie Ann White of Snohomish.
