What: A 3-plus mile walk along Ballinger Way in Lake Forest Park.
Where: From the Lake Forest Park mall at Ballinger Way and Bothell Way to Bruggers Bog Park and return.
Why: There is a continuous paved sidewalk on the northeast side of tree-filled, winding Ballinger Way. It’s a straight shot with a slight uphill grade on the way out, but there’s always the thought of the downhill return to keep you going. From the mall parking lot, cross over busy Ballinger at the crosswalk with the traffic signal. Be wary of the intersections and driveways as you walk northwest toward the park, keeping dogs and kids under control. Lure them along with the promise of swings and slides, trails and picnic tables at the little triangle park at 25th Avenue NE. Walk back along the same side on your return trip. There is no sidewalk on the southerly side of this thoroughfare. I know I’m not making Ballinger Way sound like good walking territory, but it really is a pleasant wooded walk if you stick to the sidewalk and avoid the traffic. Add a few more steps to your trip with a turn around Third Place Books.
