Science whiz: Adrian is fascinated by science. “I just like asking a lot of questions. I want to know everything, basically.”
Aspiring physicist: He wants to be a theoretical physicist and study big scientific issues, such as the superstring theory and the 11th dimension. His interest in science really took off last year. “I’ve not always been into science, but I’ve always been inquisitive.”
Building robots: After school, Adrian programs robots with the Cavelero Mid High robot club. He is programing a robot to catch hockey pucks.
Robot camp: Adrian went to a robot day camp last summer. He enjoys working with robots. “They can do stuff on their own without anybody having to do anything at all.”
Stand alone: Adrian said his parents support his fascination with science but don’t share it. His father manages an Old Country Buffet restaurant in Puyallup and his mother is an office worker. He also has an 11-year-old sister, Alexia Davila.
Big trip: For Christmas, Adrian’s dad bought plane tickets to Boston so they can visit the Massachusetts Institute of Technology together during spring break. Adrian plans to go on campus tours and gather information on the school, which he hopes to attend. “I looked at a lot of schools, but this one is different because it’s more art-oriented. It’s not just linear science. There’s some beauty to it.”
Spare time: When he’s not at school or in robot club, Adrian spends time reading math and science books, working on electronics and building motors. He recently completed a motor he built from scratch. “I like to show it to my friends and family. It’s just really cool.”
Reading science: His favorite author is theoretical physicist Michio Kaku. His latest book was titled “Physics of the Impossible: A Scientific Exploration of the World of Phasers, Force Fields, Teleportation, and Time Travel.” Adrian says, “Michio Kaku was the first one to inspire me. … He did a lot when he was in high school, too.”
Moving up: Adrian is looking forward to attending Lake Stevens High School in the fall. He’s eager to take different types of science classes.
