What: A short, uphill climb overlooking Clear Creek
Where: Take the Mountain Loop Highway 3 miles south from Darrington. Park just before the Clear Creek bridge.
Length: 2 miles round trip
Difficulty: Easy
Beginning elevation: 600 feet
Ending elevation: 1,000 feet
Notes: When snow piles up in the upper elevations, the Mountain Loop Highway loses many of its more scenic attractions for hiking. This short climb passes through dense forests, joins the road briefly and then lets out at tiny Frog Lake. It’s such a short hike, you won’t even mind doing it in the rain.
