4Troops — three men and one woman who served in Iraq and Afghanistan — releases their self-titled debut album on Tuesday, during Armed Forces Week.
TRIVIA: A portion of the proceeds from the album will benefit the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and the USO.
STANDOUTS: Former Capt. Meredith Melcher sings lead on the Sarah McLachlan hit “Angel.”
FANS DIG: The good ol’ U.S. of A.
ANDY SAYS: 4Troops has talent. The quartet’s strong, smooth voices ably deliver a mix of pop and country songs, including Luther Vandross’ “Dance With My Father” and Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.” But while their delivery is strong, their selection of songs could use work. Each track can be generically described as either uplifting or sentimental. The end result feels a bit schmaltzy.
GRADE: B-minus
