You might be a pro at cooking with peanut butter. Maybe you’re a master at using evaporated milk. Are you a recipe innovator?

For all you amateur home cooks out there, it’s time to test your cooking cunning in the 45th Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest.

There are four contest categories. One

of the four category winners receives the $1 million grand prize.

The last time the contest was held, April 2010, Sue Compton of Delanco, N.J., won the $1 million grand prize with her mini ice cream cookie cups. Everett resident Julee Cunningham made the finals with her pecan sweet potato appetizers.

Cunningham was the second Snohomish County woman to participate in the biennial cookoff in recent years. Mill Creek cooking-contest guru Elizabeth Bennett was a finalist in the 2008 bake-off with her recipe for mocha walnut bars.

This year, the four contest categories are:

Breakfast and brunches, such as sweet rolls, pull-aparts, pastries, breakfast breads, egg dishes or breakfast sandwiches.

Entertaining appetizers served at casual gatherings and can include bite size appetizers, tartlets, pinwheels, puffs, bruschetta or focaccia.

“Dinner-made-easy,” which includes pizzas, calzones, sandwiches, foldovers, casseroles, chilis, soups or savory pies.

Sweet treats for anytime celebrations such as cookies, pies, tarts, brownies or bars.

There many other cash prizes and trips being offered as well, including four additional awards:

The GE Imagination At Work Award for the most innovative recipe. The winner receives $5,000 in GE kitchen appliances.

The Jif Peanut Butter Award for the finalist using at least 1/4 cup of Jif. The winner receives $5,000.

The Crisco is Cooking Award for the best recipe with at least 1 tablespoon of Crisco cooking oil. The winner receives $5,000.

Eagle Brand Signature Recipe Award for the best recipe with Eagle Brand condensed milk. The winner receives $5,000.

Cooks who are 18 and older can enter their original recipes online at www.bakeoff.com now through April 18.

One hundred people will be selected to compete for a chance at the grand prize during the contest finals March 25 to 27, 2012, at the Peabody Orlando Hotel in Florida.
