Mark our calendar: Do you have a plant sale, home or garden tour, or other event coming up? We want to know about it if you do. Our summer- planning calendar will feature July, August and September events, and plant sales by local clubs and other nonprofit groups to help you get the most out of the sunny season. Send the details of your event – including the time, date, place and a phone number for the public to contact – to reporter Sarah Jackson at sjackson@heraldnet.com or call 425-339-3037 with questions. June 18 is the deadline.

Digging those daffs: Unsightly daffodil foliage can be cut to the ground now without harming the vigor of next year’s flower display. If you need to move or divide bulbs, mark the area with a tag and dig the clump with a garden fork in September.

Trust them: The National Trust for Historic Preservation has taken a swing into the furniture and carpet business in collaboration with designers and manufacturers, on a project that will directly benefit the nonprofit organization.

The Design in America home-furnishings collection includes furniture by Hammary and carpets from Karastan that use motifs from architecture and interiors of historic stately homes.

“The program’s mission was to engage and inspire designers to create new products based on America’s rich design heritage,” according to the Trust. The program of giving designers access to historic Trust sites across the country began in 2005, a National Trust spokesman said. Four furniture lines and 10 carpets are now available.

The Hammary furniture ranges from art-deco styles suggested by Miami’s South Beach to mountain-lodge styles reflecting Old West National Trust properties in Wyoming. Karastan’s designer teams found inspiration from the Trust’s Greek revival homes in Virginia, and Gothic castles in Tarrytown, N.Y., among other sources.

The Trust says that a portion of the proceeds generated by sales of the collection will benefit its ongoing work. Check www.nationaltrust.org/ designinamerica/ for more information.
