Jonathan Stuart and Wesley Amundsen, known as The Done Goners, are bringing their spin on hillbilly swing to the Marysville Opera House at 5:30 p.m. today.
The Seattle-based duo play a mix between Western swing — a subgenre of country music influenced by jazz in the 1930s — and country music, which they call “modern-day hillbilly swing.”
Their sets include originals and cover songs of old jazz, gypsy jazz and Django Reinhardt songs with a hillbilly swing feel, played on an acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar, suitcase kick drum and upright bass.
Stuart said The Done Goners’ sound is intended to be minimal.
“It’s appealing to me because it allows us a little more space,” he said. “It’s easier to hear what’s going on.
“We were going for a really stripped-down sound.”
Tickets are $5. Call 360-363-8400 or go to www.marysvillewa.gov for more information.
