One of my favorite things about writing this blog is all the cool stuff that comes my way. Sometimes it’s free music or a reader telling me about their friend’s band, sometimes information about an upcoming show. So when I got a call the other night from Aaron Mason, host of local podcast The Grapes of Rad, saying he had something really awesome to send to me I got pretty excited.
Two years ago a coworker of Aaron’s named Nick Cannata-Bowman was in film school and made a short video with his classmates Jamie Wallace and Kurt Fredrickson featuring what was then a brand new, little-known Seattle folk band called The Head and The Heart.
The video features members of the band talking about what it’s like to play together, what The Head and The Heart means to them and the struggle between being rational and following your head or jumping in with both feet and following your heart.
“We’re doing the heart thing” says singer Josiah Johnson.
The Head and The Heart have become a big deal touring all over the world with bands like Death Cab For Cutie, My Morning Jacket, and Dave Matthews as well as selling out shows as headliners. Their rise has been fast and getting the chance to watch them play in a small bar setting (which you will likely never see again) and explain how excited they were to be playing together back when they were still a new band feels pretty special.
Thanks to everyone involved in sharing this project!
