“The Importance of Being Earnest,” Oscar Wilde’s “trivial comedy for serious people” about “romance, secret identities and cucumber sandwiches” is directed by Jeremy Anderson. Remaining performances are 7:30 p.m. April 8 and 9 with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 9. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students, seniors and military.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie,” musical comedy, Aug. 18 to 27.

“Becky’s New Car” by Steven Dietz, April 8 to May 1, with shows at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Directed by Ted Jaquith, the comedy is about Becky Foster, who is caught in middle age, middle management and middling marriage with no prospects for change on the horizon. Suddenly Becky’s offered nothing short of a new life. Will she take it? The cast includes Melanie Calderwood, Jake Friang, Steve Heiret, Michael G. McFadden, Christine Mosere, Veronica Tuttell and Rick Wright. Tickets are $19 or $16 for seniors, students, military.
“The Dixie Swim Club” will be produced by Phoenix from June 3 to 26.

“Cash on Delivery”: Historic Everett Theatre’s resident comedy troupe, the Outcast Players, takes on this play by Michael Cooney, April 14-17, 21-24, 28-30 at the theater, 2911 Colby Ave. Tickets are $12. Performances will be 7:30 Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. Thursday nights are two for one tickets for seniors. Call 425-258-6766. This fast-paced comedy involves a con artist who has duped welfare authorities for years by claiming every type of benefit for the many people he claims live at his address. When investigators show up, he is forced to prove all of his boarders are real. Tickets are $12.
Opera preview: The latest edition of Seattle Opera’s free preview series focuses on Richard Wagner’s stormy, captivating tale of ghostly love at 2 p.m. April 22 in the Everett Public Library Auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave. No knowledge of music or opera is expected. Seattle Opera performs The Flying Dutchman from May 7 to 21. A ship’s captain is cursed to sail the seas forever, permitted to land once every seven years, with only the love of a faithful woman able to lift the curse. He seems doomed to sail forever, but enter Senta, a romantic Norwegian girl who would release the Dutchman. This is opera, so the story doesn’t end well. Wagner’s score is considered a landmark in the history of Romantic art. This is a new production for Seattle Opera. The costumes and setting are unusual, reminiscent of the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930s. More about the Seattle Opera production is at www.seattleopera.org/on-stage/the-flying-dutchman.
