Seattle Opera: Presents “Attila” by Giuseppe Verdi. Bass-baritone John Relyea returns to Seattle to portray The King of the Huns in this story of a scheming Roman general. “Coriolanus”: Seattle Shakespeare Company presents this action packed show where the citizenry are revolting and political power is concentrated in the hands of the rich and powerful. Shakespeare points up the parallels to current headlines and shows that politics are a nest of vipers more dangerous than an enemy’s sword; 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, 2 p.m. on selected Saturdays and 2 and 7:30 p.m. selected Sundays Jan. 4 through 29, Center House Theatre, 305 Harrison St., Seattle. “14/48: The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival”: ACT Theatre presents 14 plays created, written, designed, scored, rehearsed and performed in 48 hours. Each weekend, seven playwrights write seven plays on a randomly selected theme on Thursday night. 12 hours later, seven directors each blindly select a play and the required number of actors to cast it. After 10 hours of fevered rehearsal with seven designers and seven musicians, the plays premiere that evening. The 8 p.m. Friday audience submits themes, one of which is randomly chosen, and the process starts all over again; Jan. 6 to 7 and 13 to 14 at ACT Theatre, 700 Union St., Seattle.
