Phoenix Theatre: 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds; 206-533-2000; www.tptedmonds.org. Staging through April 26 is “She Kills Monsters.” Agnes Evans is dealing with the untimely death of her sister, Tilly. Agnes learns more about her sister upon playing the fantasy roll-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students, seniors, military.
Red Curtain: The Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave., Suite J, Marysville (in the Goodwill shopping center, behind the Everett Community College cosmetology school); 360-322-7402; redcurtainfoundation.org. Staging April 10-26 is “The Rememberer.” This play tells the true story of Joyce Cheeka, a Squaxin girl who was forcibly placed in the Tulalip Boarding School in 1911. Fighting against the school’s mandates, she struggles to maintain her role as “The Rememberer” for her tribe. Tickets are $10-$20.
Edmonds Driftwood Players: Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds; www.edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org; 425-774-9600. Showing April 17 through May 10 is the new Mel Brooks musical “The Producers” based on the 1967 cult film. A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers out of millions of dollars. Except the show is a smash hit! Tickets are $28 general, $25 youth, senior, military.
Village Theatre: Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.; 425-257-8600; www.villagetheatre.org/everett. Showing April 24 through May 17 is the tongue-in-cheek musical “Hansel & Gretl & Heidi & Gunter.” Gretl is a single mom living in modern-day Chicago, still suffering the post-traumatic stress of her fairy-tale childhood. When Uncle Hansel shows up, Gretl’s kids (Heidi and Gunter) learn about their complicated family legacy. Tickets are $29-$69.
YOUTH THEATER
Village Kidstage: Cope Gillette Theatre, 2730 Wetmore Ave., Everett; 425-257-8600 or villagetheatre.org/everett/kidstage-everett.php. “Aladdin Jr.” is showing through April 19. The musical is based on the Disney movie about the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their happily ever after. This youth adaptation features expanded characters and new songs. Tickets are $19 adults, $17 seniors and youth.
COMEDY
Comedy Garage: A weekly comedy showcase and open mic held Mondays at Tony V’s Garage, 1716 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Features regional comedians working out their longer sets and local amateurs trying new material. Richard Bowen is the headliner on April 13. No cover. All ages. Everett Comedy Night: Emory’s on Silver Lake, 11830 19th Ave. SE, Everett, hosts a second-Sunday monthly comedy night. Tickets are $10. All ages.
