Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national TV, dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the affections of the local heartthrob, and integrate a TV network… all without denting her ‘do. Star Trek meets Shakespeare in the new play “M’aQ’betH,” opening July 27. Alex DeRoest and Nick Poling, the masterminds behind “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” and “The Adventures of Lewis and Clark,” have adapted Shakespeare’s play into a Klingon one. The youth theater company performs Monty Python’s “Spamalot” at 7 p.m. July 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28, 2 p.m. July 22 and 28. Lovingly ripped off from the classic film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” the comedy musical retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French taunters. “Shrek the Musical”: The Edmonds Driftwood Players Teen Troupe presents the musical based on the movie “Shrek” July 20-22 at the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds. A green ogre finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue in this fairy tale of misfits. Tickets are $15.
