Con man Harold Hill convinces the citizens of River City to start a band by purchasing the instruments and uniforms from him. But Harold is no musician. He plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Also: “School of Rock” Aug. 10-18.
Teen Troupe: Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds; www.edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org; 425-774-9600. “Matilda the Musical” brings Roald Dahl’s magical misfit to the stage at 8 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10, 2 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11.. The hit musical won five Tony Awards, seven Olivier Awards and was named Time’s No. 1 show of the year in 2013. Tickets are $15.
Misoula Children’s Theatre: Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds; www.edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org; 425-774-9600. “The Snow Queen” musical based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale is showing at 3 and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 3. It’s a coming of age story about two young children, Gerda and Kai. When Kai is lured into leaving by the dangerous Snow Queen, Gerda sets off on an epic journey to find her best friend and bring him home. Tickets are $9 for children 12 and younger, $13 for those 13 and older.
COMEDY
Comedy Garage: A weekly comedy showcase and open mic held Mondays at Tony V’s Garage, 1716 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Features regional comedians working out their longer sets and local amateurs trying new material. No cover. All ages. Sign up at 7:15 p.m.; show is at 8:30 p.m. On Aug. 5, Charles Hall Jr. headlines.
Everett Comedy Night: Emory’s on Silver Lake, 11830 19th Ave. SE, Everett, hosts a second-Sunday monthly comedy night. Gabriel Rutledge and John McKay headline on Aug. 11. Tickets are $10. All ages.
