Whidbey Island Center for the Arts presents a new work by Tim Rarick, “This Child,” based on Rarick’s family history. The play opens in 1929 during the preparations for a Christmas pageant (minus a Joseph and a runaway cow) and unfolds around members of a local parish as it copes with a devastating crisis. “This Child” opens at 7:30 tonight at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, 565 Camano Ave., Langley. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 15. Tickets are $16, $14 senior, $12 youth; 360-221-8268, 800-638-7631, www.WICAonline.com.
