Everett Poetry Night offers poets and wannabes a space to share their work, from spoken word to slam poetry, 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. every Thursday at Cafe Zippy, 1502 Rucker Ave., Everett. It’s open to all ages, skills and styles.
Fitz Fitzpatrick, a performance poet based out of Spokane, is the featured performer March 22.
Upcoming featured performers are Sibyl James (March 29), Maya Hersh (April 5), Tara Hardy (April 12) and Sheryl Sirotnik (April 19).

Those short stories you’ve been penning for years don’t need to stay secret forever.
Whidbey Island Center for the Arts is accepting submissions for the semi-annual Chris Spencer’s Short Story Smash. The deadline is April 4. Selected stories, ranging from 100 to 1,000 words in length, will be performed live on stage 7:30 p.m., April 11, at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, 565 Camano Ave., Langley.

Jam out with a stranger or bring a friend to listen to some spontaneous tunes.
All kinds of music is played on Open Mic nights at Anchor Pub. Touring bands, local acts, random collaborations, brave newcomers. It’s your chance to practice your stuff in front of a live audience.
Play or listen to everything from rock to hip-hop from 9 to midnight every Thursday at Anchor Pub, 1001 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Spoken word, poetry and other forms of performance are also accepted.
