Three ways to celebrate Grilled Cheese Day

Celebrity chef Katie Lee concocted some tasty grilled cheese mashups in time for the unofficial holiday April 12.

There are lots of things we can prepare for.

A new job, a skiing trip, World War III.

How about National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day? Celebrity chef Katie Lee concocted some tasty grilled cheese mashups in time for the unofficial holiday on April 12.

That means no more boring grilled cheese sandwiches … unless that’s how you like them.

1. Pizza grilled cheese

Pizza and grilled cheese in the same sandwich? Mama mia.

A recipe for parm-tastic pizza grilled cheesecalls for marinara sauce, two slices of provolone cheese, pepperoni, chopped banana peppers, caramelized onions and mozzarella, plus a sprinkle of parmesan on the outside of the bread slices.

2. Burger grilled cheese

This one is all about disguising your grilled cheese sandwich as a burger, or vice versa.

Here are the ingredients for the caramelized onion grilled cheese burger: Ground beef patties made with a dash of garlic power, onion powder and salt; caramelized onions; slices of swiss cheese and a pile of its fancy-pants cousin, grated gruyere cheese. The recipe is at www.saraleebread.com.

3. Dessert grilled cheese

Grilled cheese can even satisfy a sweet tooth. All it takes is some sweet flavors.

A recipe for chocolate hazelnut strawberry grilled cheese layers chocolate hazelnut spread, sliced strawberries and cream cheese for a simple yet effective sandwich that’s good for lunch, dinner and, of course, dessert. This one can be prepared in only a minute.

Use any kind of bread suitable for grilled cheese.

Visit www.saraleebread.com for details on making these grilled cheese mashups.
