Top 10 songs from local artists in 2011

The new year is here and now it’s time to make some lists and talk about what was awesome in 2011. Below you will find my top 10 songs from local artists in the last year. Tomorrow I will post my top 10 albums of 2011 along with some other honors. Hope you enjoy.

1. Macklemore &Ryan Lewis – My Oh My

For the first time ever picking my #1 song was a no brainer. In 2011 Macklemore and Ryan Lewis had a knack for giving me goosebumps with their songs “Wings”, “Make That Money” and “Otherside” (feat. Fences). But when they started the year by honoring the loss of local legend Dave Niehaus with the video for their song “My Oh My” they put tears in my eyes.

2. Allen Stone – Satisfaction

Allen Stone’s album is so good that it was hard not to just list the whole thing as my top ten. I was able to determine that “Satisfaction” is my favorite song, or it is at this moment at least.

3. Pickwick – Blackout (a capella)

This a capella version of “Blackout” isn’t how it was originally recorded of course, but I do think it’s the best way to enjoy this song.

4. My Goodness – C’mon Doll

Keep your eye on My Goodness. I think the future is looking bright for these two. If you like loud, bluesy rock then you’ll love this.

5. Tennis Pro – Rock Over Tokyo

In 2011 Tennis Pro released their album Shimokita is Dead? and it is good. It feels like just a glimpse into the brilliance that I am expecting from their film, Big in Japan that is set for a 2012 release.

6. Blue Scholars – Cinemetropolis

“Cinemetropolis” is the title track from the latest release from Blue Scholars. This is another one I had a hard time picking only one song so I decided to pick the one they named the album after.

7. David Bazan – Wolves at the Door

If you like this song you should check Dave’s website. He might be occupying a living room near you in the next few months on his Living Room Tour.

8. Brothers From Another – Beeba Vision pt. 2

Listening to this song makes me wish summer wasn’t over yet. If you haven’t picked it up yet go download Quality of Living. It will be worth the price you get to pick.

9. Lisa Dank – Body Language

On the third day of her 12 Days of Dankness project Lisa gave us “Body Language” and caused me to get up from my desk and dance around the office. Then I realized it was not safe for work and sprinted to the computer to turn it off.

10. 20 Riverside – The Camping Song

That flute during the intro in unreal. “I am constantly one of the top three when it comes to drinking wobbly pops and getting sloppy” – Aron G.

Honorable mention goes to Russian Dragons and their song “Walkin Down This Road.” They just recorded it a week ago but I fell in love with it instantly. It will be fun to see if these guys keep working together. Check the video out here.

If you think there are some songs that should have made the list but didn’t feel free to get in touch via email and make your case. I can always post a list of reader suggestions.
