Touch of Class returns for 25th year in Everett

Everett Dance Theatre brings back Everett’s annual A Touch of Class performance tonight with a gala night of music and dance.

A 25-year tradition, the evening benefits scholarships for dance students unable to afford classes. Everett Dance Theatre, a non-profit school, annually awards around $10,000 in scholarships and reduced ticket prices to performances such as A Storybook Nutcracker.

The gala this year brings back guest artist Pacific Chamber Ballet and singer-actress Sue Weingarten. New guests are singer-actress Sam Samano and Maria Sier and students. Sier has been a keyboard specialist with the Everett Symphony.

Dancers include Hip Hop dancers from Mocha with Cream and Sugar, which just won first place at the Tremaine competition in Portland, Ore., and the ballet Istanbul, which won second place.

A Touch of Class is at 8 tonight at the Snohomish County PUD Auditorium, 2320 California Ave., Everett. Tickets are $10 in advance at Everett Dance Theatre, 7207 Evergreen Way, 425-348-5955, or $12 at the door.

OBT open house: Clown ballerinas, animal characters and a rousing Russian folk dance are all part of Olympic Ballet Theatre’s open house at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Frances Anderson Cultural Center in downtown Edmonds.

It’s a rare opportunity to see Olympic Ballet Theatre dancers up close in their studio as they perform three ballets from the company repertoire – “Pulcinellas,” “The Animal Circle” and “Russian Melodies.”

The hour-long event also includes an invitation for the children in the audience to join the performers afterward for some improvisational dance.

Admission is $5 and reservations are necessary. Call Olympic Ballet Theatre at 425-774-7570.
