With signs of fall becoming more and more evident, such as the start of football season, those who enjoy beer might be looking for a way to enjoy themselves at another event that comes with the season: Oktoberfest.
It’s the time of year when beer aficionados start speaking German with a little more “oomph.” Speaking German, that is, as far as words like Marzen, Hefeweizen, Pilsner and Kolsch.
While it may be easy enough to find a variety of beers close to home and enjoy them there, truly celebrating all the aspects of Oktoberfest means partiers go out with friends (and designated drivers), to enjoy some new tastes while taking in some classic Oktoberfest food, music and festive scenery.
Today and Saturday, under a tent 100 feet wide by 100 feet long at St. Edward State Park in Kenmore, the Washington State Beer Commission staff offers the public a chance to do all those things, and specifically to enjoy the beers mentioned above, along with plenty more.
For this rain-or-shine event, which is the first Oktoberfest sponsored by the commission, various brewing companies, including a few local ones, will bring together their unique products for the public to sample. Anacortes Brewery, Alpine Brewing Co. (of Oroville) and Baron Brewing Co. and Big Time Brewery, both of Seattle, are just a few of the 30 Washington breweries that will be featured.
Festivalgoers can expect the park to be filled with rock and blues music, German oompah music and German foods like schnitzel and bratwurst and more to complement their sampling experiences.
