It’s that time of year, when no one gift seems good enough for that special someone but a stocking full of lots of goodies is ideal.
Well, faithful readers, don’t try hanging this column above your fireplace, but consider it your early Christmas stocking.
Some highlights include Dwight running over a goose on the way to work (“It’s a Christmas miracle!” he says), Michael’s day not going as planned and Pam and Karen – Jim’s new love interest – planning an office Christmas party together. Of course, as the title implies, Michael and Co. make their way to Benihana, or “Asian Hooters,” as Michael calls it, and hilarity ensues.
It isn’t a roadkill goose, but this episode most certainly is a Christmas miracle.
On top of that, next month brings the premiere of the fourth season of “The L Word,” with Cybill Shepherd joining the cast, which can’t be anything short of an absolute riot.
It’s still difficult to give up HBO, which has a new season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” on the way, in addition to a new batch of “Entourage” episodes and final seasons of “The Sopranos” and “The Wire” in the works. But it is time for true TV fans to at least consider adding Showtime as it begins to factor into discussions around the water cooler, or whatever has taken its place in the new era of bottled hydration.
The good news for Kennedy? He slipped in one spot ahead of Homer Simpson’s “D’oh!”
That’s what you’ll discover if you tune in to the final two installments of TV Land’s “100 Greatest TV Quotes and Catchphrases” special, which is being presented in one-hour, 20-item chunks each night this week at 10 p.m. Nos. 40 through 21 air tonight, and the final batch airs Friday.
Other highlights include William Shatner joining Jackie Gleason as the only actors to appear on the list twice with quotes from different shows.
Shatner’s “Denny Crane” as, well, Denny Crane on “Boston Legal” was No. 73, while his “Space, the final frontier” line as Capt. Kirk on “Star Trek” ranks No. 14.
Gleason’s “How sweet it is” from “The Jackie Gleason Show” ranks 28th. His unforgettable “Baby, you’re the greatest” as Ralph Kramden on “The Honeymooners” is No. 4.
Notable exclusion: Not a one from “I Love Lucy.”
That’s it. Whoever put that list together: “No soup for you!” (No. 32).
