Tween hit ‘High School Musical’ hits Everett ice

Drama, on ice.

It’s the same popular story with the same beloved characters, but the original “Disney’s High School Musical” is moving to a whole new arena — literally — next Thursday through Sunday.

Producer Feld Entertainment’s 28th ice show, “Disney’s High School Musical: The Ice Tour,” will stop at Comcast Arena for seven shows Nov. 6 through 9, then will go on to Seattle the following week.

The show is in such demand that it led to a “first” for Feld Entertainment; that is, putting on three simultaneous productions of the same show, all of which are touring worldwide now. This, in total, requires more than 1,280 costume pieces and more than 170 lighting elements, according to press materials.

The story, which follows Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, Sharpay, Chad and Taylor as they move through a school year competing for popularity, spots in a drama department production and more, also continues to air both “High School Musical” and “High School Musical 2” on the Disney television channel.

“High School Musical 3: Senior Year” was released in movie theaters Oct. 24.

The ice show has added a special bonus experience, exclusive to ice tour ticketholders, to feature behind-the-scenes “High School Musical 3” footage and a sing-a-long dance party. The movie’s director, Kenny Ortega, introduces the feature via video screen, and families are treated to an interactive experience as movie and ice tour choreographer Chucky Klapow joins Kenny on screen to provide a dance lesson. Fans will hear the new movie’s anthem song as skaters demonstrate the hot new steps on ice.

Comcast Arena is located at 2000 Hewitt Ave. Tickets for the Everett shows cost $16 to $65 plus service fees; available now by calling 866-332-8499, 206-628-0888 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
