We’ve got some blockbusters on tap for the Memorial Day movies on TV, and we end the week with a memorial to Steve McQueen.
Today
“The Good Girl,” 9 p.m., Oxygen. Who needs Brad Pitt anyway? Jennifer Aniston delivers a solid performance in this moody little character study of lives at a dead end. Good work from Jake Gyllenhaal, Zooey Deschanel and John C. Reilly, too. 2002.
Saturday
“Lifeboat,” 1 p.m., Fox Movies. A movie set entirely on a lifeboat at sea during WWII (a technical feat neatly executed by director Alfred Hitchcock), plus a rare movie showcase for the bigger-than-life personality Tallulah Bankhead. 1944.
“Catch Me if You Can,” 9 p.m., CBUT. A cat-and-mouse contest between a notorious impostor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and an FBI agent (Tom Hanks) very focused on his job. Steven Spielberg directed. 2002.
Sunday
“The Transporter,” 5:30 p.m., FX. Some of the same crew that made the current “Unleashed” (notably producer Luc Besson) worked on this wickedly entertaining action flick, which follows a professional driver (Jason Statham) who takes on shady deals for big money. 2002.
“Titanic,” 7 p.m., Channel 5. Yes, I acknowledge the script isn’t what it could be, but the stupendous spectacle of James Cameron’s ship-meets-iceberg movie is fairly breathtaking. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet at the dewy-eyed passengers. 1997.
“M*A*S*H,” 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., American Movie Classics. A spiffed-up print of Robert Altman’s anti-establishment war comedy is promised, reminding us that the movie is a much more acidic experience than the subsequent TV series. 1970.
Monday
“To Be and To Have,” 9 p.m., Sundance. Just about perfect, this documentary captures the changing seasons that evolve as a schoolteacher in a small French town lodges his final year on the job. It probably doesn’t sound like a movie you need to see, except that you’ll never forget it if you watch it. 2002.
Tuesday
“Independence Day,” 7 p.m., FX. Cheesy, silly, but inordinately fun, this giant-scaled movie brings the aliens to earth. We fight back. 1996.
“Traffic,” 8 p.m., Channel 5. Steven Soderbergh’s Oscar winner about the complicated drug industry, seen at every level of use and abuse. Michael Douglas leads a big cast. 2000.
Wednesday
“Bullitt,” 6:30 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. One of Steve McQueen’s signature roles was in this police thriller, which co-stars a hard-driving Ford Mustang. 1968.
Thursday
“The Great Escape,” 5 p.m., Turner Classic Movies. More McQueen, here leading the ensemble in one of the great guy movies of all time: a break-out from a German POW camp. 1963.
