Washington State Poet Laureate Elizabeth Austen will read poetry twice in Snohomish County as part of April’s National Poetry Month. The event at the Everett library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., is a joint reading with Seattle poet Megan Snyder-Camp., The Mountlake Terrace event includes music by John Burgess at 23300 58th Ave. W. Austen is the author of the collection “Every Dress a Decision” and two chapbooks “The Girl Who Goes Alone” and “Where Currents Meet.” She produces literary programming for KUOW radio and is a communications specialist and educator at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Her work explores ways the personal and political intersect, and touches on issues such as women’s societal roles, courage, spirituality and the natural world.

The book is about the alphabet, animals and discovering inspiration.

Award-winning artist and author Tony Angell will talk about his new book “The House of Owls” at the Adopt A Stream Foundation’s Northwest Stream Center in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. For the past 25 years, Angell closely observed pairs of western screech owls outside the window of his home. He recorded his observations in a journal and drew the owls.
