Legendary Washington state newspaperman Wallie Funk plans to talk about his new history book “Pictures of the Past” at a reception at the Depot Arts and Community Center, 611 R Ave. Funk was editor and co-publisher of the Anacortes American newspaper and then held the same positions at the Whidbey News-Times in Oak Harbor.

7:30 p.m. May 16, Eastlake Community Church

The author of the award-winning book “The Shack” will speak at the Bothell church, 3301 Monte Villa Parkway.

Kevin Zobrist

7 p.m. May 7, Northwest Stream Center

Washington State University’s Kevin Zobrist will be in the Northwest Stream Center Auditorium using images from his new book, “Native Trees of Western Washington: A Photographic Guide” to talk about local trees. The center is located in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.

Mitra Ray

Mitra Ray, who lives at Tulalip with her family, has contributed to the new Chicken Soup for the Soul book titled “Time to Thrive: 101 Inspiring Stories about Growth, Wisdom and Dreams.” Ray, who earned her doctorate biochemistry at Stanford Medical School, is the author of “Do You Have the Guts to be Beautiful?” Her story is in the collection is “A Magical Life of Possibilities,” which recounts her journey from her native Kolkata, India, to the United States.
