Free: This weekend, national parks will be free from Saturday to Monday in honor of Presidents Day. Around here that means Olympic National Park and Mount Rainier National Park. North Cascades National Park is always free. On Monday, Forest Service lands won’t require a Northwest Forest Service Pass to use Forest Service recreation sites.
Birds: Joe Meche, a writer and photographer, will offer a virtual tour of Camano Island and talk about its birds at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N East Camano Drive. Joe has been watching birds for more than 60 years and captures their beauty on film and video tape to share with others. Bikes and adventures: The Seattle Bike Show and Travel Trips and Adventures Expo are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 28 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 1. The event includes retails, tour providers, how-to seminars, demonstrations and hands-on activities. The bike show is geared toward cyclists and the expo is aimed at adventurers of all types who would like help planning their next adventure. Tickets are $10; 17 and under are free. Crow: Learn more about the fascinating lives of crows. University of Washington professor John Marzluff will speak at 7 p.m. March 12 at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. His research has been the focus of articles in the New York Times, National Geographic, Audubon, and National Wildlife. Naturalist training: The WSU Extension Beach Watchers are offering training to help people learn more about Puget Sound Beaches and then share their knowledge with others. The training is 13 hours. After the training, participants volunteer for nine hours at three events in the spring ansd summer. Training is at Mukilteo’s Rosehill Community Center on April 15 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. An application is due on April 1. A free background check and a $10 materials fee are required.
