Everett Film Festival

The award-winning Everett Film Festival is Feb. 20 and 21 at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave. The opening gala and films are 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 20. Several shorts are scheduled as well as the screening of the feature “Lucky Them,” which stars Toni Collette and Thomas Haden Church. The story, set in Seattle and filmed locally, is about a rock journalist who is assigned to track down her former boyfriend. From 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 21, seven films and happy hour with a taste of Everett are scheduled. For more on what is playing during the festival, go to www.everettfilmfest.org.

‘First Flight’

The Adopt A Stream Foundation and Snohomish County Parks and Recreation are presenting “First Flight: A Mother Hummingbird’s Story” at the Northwest Stream Center in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park at 7 p.m. Feb. 13. “First Flight” is a 45-minute award-winning film for the whole family that dissects the personal life of hummingbirds.

‘A Breath of Freedom’

The Edmonds Community College Black Box Theatre presents the film “A Breath of Freedom” at 7 p.m., Feb. 18 in Mukilteo Hall. The film tells the story of the 1-million-plus African Americans who fought in World War II and returned home to a fight for equality. The film will be followed by a discussion with veterans judge Charles Johnson, whose story is featured in the film, and Dr. Joseph W. Scott, author of “Little Ethiopia of the Pacific Northwest.” A suggested donation of $7 will go to Vets Place Northwest or the Boots to Books Campaign. The Empowerment Project

The film “The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things” will be shown at noon, Feb. 19 in the Jackson Center Wilderness Room at Everett Community College. This program is open to the public and there is no cost to attend. The film follows the journey of five female filmmakers driving across America to encourage, empower and inspire the next generation of strong women to go after their career ambitions. Two of the filmmakers, Dana Michelle Cook and Sarah Moshman, will host a discussion after the film.

Movies at the library

Bring your friends, have some popcorn and enjoy a movie at a branch of the Sno-Isle library system. Here’s a look at the upcoming schedule. Feb. 17: “Mr. Bean’s Holiday,” Granite Falls, 3:30 p.m. Feb. 20: “Somewhere in Time,” Freeland, 2 p.m. Feb. 27: “Maleficent,” Mukilteo, 1 p.m.

Movies at the HET

Here’s the schedule for upcoming films at the Historic Everett Theatre. All showtimes are at 1 p.m. Feb. 17: “His Girl Friday,” starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. Feb. 24: “Penny Serenade,” starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. March 3: “Great Guy,” starring James Cagney. March 10: “Blood on the Sun,” starring James Cagney and Sylvia Sidney. March 17: “The Time of Your Life,” starring James Cagney and William Bendix.
