This week, I’ve got videos that make with the funny in celebration of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” out Friday, and Flight of the Conchords’ soundtrack, out Tuesday.
Let’s get right to it.
Jason Segel —”Lady L” — “Freaks and Geeks” clip
While Jason Segel is about to get all super-popular thanks to “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” he got his start as Nick Andopolis on “Freaks and Geeks.” There, he played a lovelorn teen, prone to writing sappy music. In this clip, he trots out one of my personal favorites, an ode to his ex-girlfriend Lindsay. His friend (and another future star of Judd Apatow movies) Seth Rogen provides some criticism.
Infant Sorrow —”We’ve Got to Do Something” — Video
Segel also wrote songs for “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” On this track, we get the lead singer of Infant Sorrow holding up placards that generally contradict each other — “Don’t consume/Buy Green” “Fight back against violence.” The song, a call to arms to save mother Earth, has loads of quotable lines, right down to its rant of a conclusion: “If I was in government, than I’d govern things much more differently, because it ain’t the best way to govern things so there’s poor people everywhere.” Word.
Flight of the Conchords —”Foux Du Fafa” — “Flight…” clip
It looks like the guys from Flight of the Conchords only took one semester of French based on this video. In an effort to impress girls in a bakery, they run through the words they do know: Soup du jour, baguette, croissant. It’s a funny little samba from the New Zealand duo, whose full length soundtrack comes out Tuesday (which, hey HEY, I’ll be reviewing in Monday’s paper).
