Videos: Raconteurs’ latest, plus "I’m Shipping Up to Boston"

The Raconteurs new album came out Tuesday, and it’s been getting great reviews.

I picked up a copy and tend to agree. I never really appreciated their first album until I saw the guys live – which I generally think means the album itself wasn’t entirely up to snuff. But “Consolers of the Lonely” goes right for the throat. It’s a rock record, plain and simple.

So let’s start with a video for that album’s lead single.

The Raconteurs – “Salute Your Solution” – Video

This jittery clip was apparently patched together using thousands of snapshots by the video’s director, Autumn de Wilde. The song, a crunchy blend of guitar and yelps, is a fitting first single. If you like it – and you know you do – I promise you’ll love the whole damn thing.

Black Kids – “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You” – Video

PitchforkMedia.com said this video should’ve been given the nostalgic John Hughes treatment, and I gotta say I agree. All the crazy laser fights, powdered wigs and cheerleaders come off as over-reaching. Still: Good song.

Dropkick Murphys – “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” – Video

This track is dated, let’s be clear, coming off a 2006 album. But the song just went gold, according to the fine folks at Epitaph Records, selling 13,000 digital copies this week alone to propel it past the 500,000-sold mark. The song apparently caught on after being featured in Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed.”
