It’s a holiday weekend and maybe you’re thinking of heading to the San Juan Islands, you know, a last getaway before summer freedom is over.
Think about Lopez Island for the Studio Tour of 29 art studios to see the work of 44 artists. The tour is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday, and it’s free (unless you find a have-to-have-it piece).
Artworks you’ll see include pottery, paintings, photographs, prints, drawings, jewelry, sculptures and textiles.
Lopez is a great place to roam with its cafes, bookstores, bakeries and shops, as well as beaches, hiking trails and bike-friendly roads.
Pick up a map for the studio tour at the Lopez Island Visitors Center in the Village, at any of the studios, and at many of the shops and restaurants around the island. You can also download it at the studio tour website, www.lopezstudiotour.org.
Catch the ferry at Anacortes for the 40-minute ride to Lopez. Yeah, we know, it’s a holiday weekend, but think about that biking idea. There’s always room for one more.
