I’m still reeling from cornbread’s crushing defeat at the hands of the saucy scalloped potatoes. Those same potatoes, though, are suffering badly in their current battle against No. 2 seed mashed potatoes. I can’t say I’d be sorry to see them go.
I’m watching that battle in round two of our Food Fight especially closely. If mashed potatoes win and gravy advances — and both are leading strongly toward the end of their contests — it could set up an epic battle of mashed potatoes vs. gravy in the Edible 8. That would be one messy fight.
In other notable matchups, fresh cranberry sauce is leading over corn on the cob and fruit salad is well ahead of canned cranberry sauce. Shame, it would have been fun to watch canned cranberry and fresh cranberry battle it out. Sure, they both sweeten up for Thanksgiving, but that’s only to hide their tart, viscous side.
Two versions of turkey, smoked and roasted, are handily winning, while fried turkey is struggling against prime rib roast. The voting’s not over yet, though, and anything could happen. Fried turkey could get vicious and put all that boiling oil to good use.
