If you’re running a grocery store and you aren’t selling some kind of reusable bag, then you are seriously, seriously behind. Even the tiny shop down the street from my house has its own branded bags as well as a choice of more generic black ones.
And, of course, the PCC is officially a paper-only or purple-reusable-bag kind of place now, thanks to a self-imposed plastic bag ban as of Oct. 1.
Not one to be left in the eco-friendly dust, Wal-Mart — a very large grocer indeed — is set to unveil its first recyclable cloth shopping bag in stores this week, according to a story in The Chicago Tribune.
Each black bag’s slogan reads: “Paper or Plastic? Neither.” They cost $1 each.
This is major.
Though, there’s no guarantee anyone is really going to change their bag-using ways — even if you buy the bags, you have to really work to change your habits and actually remember the bags — this is movement on the green scene like we’ve never seen.
