It’s tails a’waggin’ time for the Everett Animal Shelter.
The shelter’s Shakaroo, a benefit concert and pooch parade, takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Everett Performing Arts Center.
Local reggae/rock band Nigel Mustafa provides the music. The group proposed doing a benefit concert three years ago, according to shelter operations coordinator Dee Cordell.
The theater offered the venue and the animal shelter added the runway of pups up for adoption.
Cordell says the name Shakaroo is combination of the Hawaiian word shaka meaning “hang loose” and roo, the sound of a dog howling.
The stars of the show, the pooches, parade around the stage and perform any tricks they know.
At intermission, or “whine and wine” time, the audience can meet the pups up close. The dogs will be available for adoption at the Everett Animal Shelter beginning at 10 a.m. the next morning.
All of the dogs paraded at the event in past years were adopted in the weeks following the event, Cordell said.
Tickets are $20 and the proceeds go to supporting the shelter’s vet clinic.
