It doesn’t get any cooler than this: Ladies and gentleman, meet the Aquaduct.
It’s a bicycle (well, a tricycle, really) that filters water while you pedal. It may seem like mere novelty around here, where we have good access to cheap, clean water, but to more than 1 billion people in less-fortunate areas, this invention could have a major impact, like saving the lives of some of the 5,000 children who die per day of diseases related to contaminated water.
Crafted by the first-place winning, San Bruno, Calif.-based team in Google’s inaugural Innovate or Die Pedal-Powered Machine contest, the Aquaduct is more than just a cool new idea. It’s the kind of thing that gives me hope about our eco-future. Because, let’s face it, clean water is a precious resource for us all.
Watch the video now (below). It’s short. You’ll be glad you did! If it doesn’t work – because I’m new to this whole video-embedding process — go to this link to watch the YouTube clip or to learn more.
