For some reason, the hipsters have been hating on OK Go from day one, and it really needs to stop.
That great tastemaker Pitchfork called the group’s last album “Ivy Leaguer Sugar Ray.” The Web site was no kinder to the group’s very estimable power pop debut.
While those reviews spell out plenty of reasons to dislike the well known treadmillers, it’s still hard to grasp the vitriol.
Really, all the harsh asides and Ivy League disdain reminds me of naysayers reaction to Dave Eggers. Critics sometimes tag him as being too smart for his own good. But he’s not. He’s just very good. The same can be said of OK Go.
Anyway, the group is back in the studio with hipster-placating producer Dave Fridmann, the longtime Flaming Lips collaborator. Read about those recording sessions and more below.
