The sun is finally coming out in strength, just in time for the weekend. Bright skies and temperatures in the 70s are predicted, so it’s the right time to be out and about in Snohomish County. Here are a few suggestions for you.
Strike it rich: You can pan for gold in Gold Bar this wee
kend at the Gold Dust Days festival. If prospecting doesn’t work out for you, enjoy the live music that runs almost all day, Friday through Sunday. There’s also a Civil War re-enactment and a gold mining camp for kids. Read about the Gold Dust days here.
Get in the spirit of Lake Stevens: The Lake Stevens Aquafest offers a plethora of sports to jump into, from tennis to softball to rowing to wakeboarding to something called the Duck Dash. There are races and tournaments for kids of all different age levels, not to mention the Junior Idol. The festival is held in downtown Lake Stevens, but you can get a free wagon ride from City Hall, if you’re lucky. Events are held from Friday to Sunday; read more here.
Tour Terrace: Mountlake Terrace is holding its community fair this weekend, Tour de Terrace. It’s a family-oriented event featuring pancakes, a parade, carnival rides and fireworks. It’s open Friday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday just off I-5 in Mountlake Terrace. Get more info here.
Warm up for the Evergreen State Fair:The Silvana Fair aims to prepare community members, especially youths, for larger fairs like the Evergreen and Puyallup. Just about any animal that can be found on a farm can be found at this fair, plus a few more besides. A wide arrangement of crafts and handiwork will also on be on display at this Saturday-only fair. Drink some mead with your victuals: The Lord of Camlann has graciously invited you to the Camlann Medieval Village summer festival this weekend in Carnation. Ooh and aah at the magics of Master Payne, the sweet ballads of minstrels and the daring swordplay of swords-master Jeramy Gee. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for kids; see here for more information.
Quilt Show “Spooktacular”: More than 200 quilts will be on display at the Busy Bee Quilt Guild’s Quilt Show “Spooktacular” Friday through Sunday. The name comes from this year’s quilt challenge, which is “spider webs.” There will also be representatives from the many charities the Busy Bee Quilters support. The Nubian Jam: Everett is holding a celebration of good music, food and African-American culture at Forest Park on Saturday. The festival comes complete with dances, inspirational speakers and a health and nutrition fair. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is free. Check it out here.
Stop and smell the roses: The Snohomish Garden Club’s 27th annual Garden Tour blooms this Sunday. Tickets are $12, but children are free. At least eight gardens will be on display. Be aware, however, that strollers and wheelchairs may be unwieldy over uneven terrain. Go here to find out more.
Paddle to Swinomish: You can see the closing ceremony of the Paddle to Swinomish Tribal Canoe Journey. Seventy-eight family canoes, some coming from as far away as New Zealand, have come to the shores of Swinomish. That reservation is hosting this year’s Tribal Canoe Journey, in which more than 100 tribes from the Pacific Northwest and Canada gather to celebrate their shared culture. The event comes to an end with a closing ceremony Sunday in La Conner. Read about the journey here.
