We’re channeling Elmer Fudd this week. Please forgive us.
1. Wabbits.
Rabbits can be pesky. They tear up gardens, dig holes in back yards and leave rabbit droppings.
But don’t let it play out like a Looney Tunes cartoon — there are safe ways to repel them.
Here are a few tips from experts at Bobbex, which makes animal repellants.
Fences keep bunnies at bay. Build them about 3 feet tall, but bury them underground; rabbits often burrow up to a foot below the ground to reach their food.
Remove brush and other debris that provide nesting for rabbits.
Spray repellent on ornamental plants or at the mouth of burrows. Use a repellant that has child-, bird- and pet-safe ingredients to repel rabbits, as well as groundhogs and deer, through smell and taste aversion. More at www.bobbex.com.
2. Walks.
Go for a walk.
Bring the whole family with you.
Volunteers with South County Walks coordinate four community walks each week throughout summer in Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace. The family-friendly walks are 2 to 3 miles long and last about an hour.
Lynnwood: Meet at 6 p.m. every Monday at the Verdant Community Wellness Center, 4710 196th St. SW, and every Thursday at the Lynnwood Recreation Center, 18900 44th W.
Edmonds: Meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Edmonds Seniors Center, 220 Railroad Ave.
Mountlake Terrace: Meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion, 5303 228th St. SW.
3. Woofies.
A device that helps you get the canine equivalent of a selfie could make your dog Instagram famous.
One such device, the Woofie, made by Model Citizen Pet, attaches to your phone or tablet and holds a treat in place so your dog looks straight at the camera. The Woofie comes in three different colors: pink, gray and green. More at www.modelcitizenpet.com.
