Though it happened many thousands of miles away, local residents have a chance to remember and honor those who died in the terrorists attack of Sept. 11.
To commemorate the heroes and remember those who fell on this 10th anniversary, people can be part of the community of those honoring the p
ast and planning for the future during the concert “Remembering 911” in Mount Vernon.
The concert includes a 60-piece orchestra, a 112-voice choir, a children’s choir, bagpipe and brass bands.
Along with the music, Whidbey Naval Station will hold a fly-over, a presentation will be made by a World Trade Center Tower attack survivor and Galloping Gourmet Graham Kerr will make an appearance.
David Cross is leading the music. The program is put on by the Remembering 911 Advisory Board, a group of volunteers from a wide diversity of occupations and interests.
Proceeds will go to the Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies scholarship and First Responders Scholarships.
“Remembering 911” will be presented at 1, 4 and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 11 at McIntryre Hall at Skagit Valley College, 2501 E. College Way, Mount Vernon.
Tickets range from $9.11 to $29.11. Call McIntyre Box Office at 360-416-7727 or go to www.remembering911.com or www.mcintyrehall.org.
