Whidbey Playhouse previews new season

The Whidbey Playhouse is gearing up for its 41st season and you might be wondering what’s in store. Here’s your chance to find out … the fun way.

It’s preview night as the Whidbey Playhouse hosts a “Season Preview-Get Together” tonight.

The evening begins with hors d’oeuvres donated by local restaurants at 6:30 in the lobby at 730 SE Midway Blvd. in Oak Harbor. At 7 p.m. the season preview teaser begins. Highlights from the 40th season celebration will also be shown.

Theater tours will be available after the teaser. Nomination forms for volunteer of the year will be available in the lobby.

The Masters of Lindy Hop &Tap: This weekend, the Century Ballroom in Seattle presents some of the greatest Lindy hop and tap legends in the world to teach, perform and reminisce in a weekend of jazz dance old and new.

Some of the headliners include Skip Cunningham, Dawn Hampton, Jeni LeGon, Frankie Manning, Norma Miller, Sugar Sullivan, Chester Whitmore and Chazz Young.

The gathering is a celebration of the masters’ contributions. Guests will listen to their stories, and learn from their experience. It’s an unprecedented opportunity to meet and dance with the legendary figures who crafted these dances.

The agenda includes dances, workshops, a formal dinner, book signings, documentary screenings, panel discussions, masters exhibition and young talent showcase.

Activities are scheduled today through Sunday at the Century Ballroom, 915 E. Pine St., in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. Prices and times vary; see www.centurymasters.com for details.
