More than 70 artists will open their studios to the public this weekend at the ninth annual Whidbey Island Open Studio Tour.
Artist studios across the length of Whidbey Island will be open and the artists available for demonstrations, discussion and offering a chance to see them at work on Saturday and Sunday.
Represented will be a wide range of talented artists working in glass, fabric, clay, oil, watercolors, printmaking, mixed media, collage, acrylic, bronze, photography, metal, wood, ceramics, stone, fiber and found objects.
While the south end of the island has a heavy concentration of artists, the 76 artists in the tour range from Oak Harbor in the north to Clinton in the south.
Tour hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, and tickets are $15 (free admission for children and students 16 and younger). Ticket sales benefit scholarship programs sponsored by the Island Arts Council, which is presenting the tour.
Tour headquarters are located at the Bayview Cash Store, located on the corner of Bayview Road and Marshview Avenue. Front Room, where samples of all participating artists will be displayed to help people plan their tour. The exhibit will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Needle and art: “The art of the needle: a new look at an old art form,” an exhibit inspired by needlework in many forms: jewelry, books, clothing and samplers runs Monday through-Dec. 2 at the Edmonds Community College art gallery, Third Floor Lynnwood Hall, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
Exhibiting artists are D’Arcie Beytebiere, Catherine Black Horse, Gloria Mae Campbell, Joyeanna Chaudiere, Jocelyn Curry, Kristi Gibbs, Lili Hall, Cherie Hamilton, Merri Hill, Gwen Maxwell-Williams, Cindy McConnell, Darlene McLellan, Priscilla Peterson, Donna Prichard and Lesley Rialto.
Meet the artists at a reception for the exhibit 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 18 in the gallery. Entertainment will be provided by Rialto Moon sax and guitar interpreted with the art of bellydance by Lesley Rialto.
