Wild Women revival hits stage on way to Ireland

Whidbey Island’s south end is awash in theater offerings this weekend.

Langley actors Martha Furey, Martha Murphy, Michele LaRue and Shelley Hartle are performing the drama “Talking With” locally, before taking it on the road to Ireland later this year.

It has been 20 years since the four women appeared together. They have reunited to reprise the eight characters in “Talking With.” The revival, by Wild Women Productions, is being staged at Whidbey Children’s Theater beginning tonight.

According to information about the show, the characters include a baton twirler, a jaded stage actress, an evangelical snake handler, a former rodeo rider and a bag lady and a grieving daughter. “Talking With,” by Jane Martin, won the American Theatre Critics Association Award for Best Regional Play in 1982.

Also at Langley: If you prefer dance to drama, you can attend a performance of Spectrum Dance Theatre at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts.

This contemporary dance troupe will perform at 7:30 tonight in its Whidbey Island debut.

Artistic director Donald Byrd leads the group with a new company and a renewed vision, with a goal of making contemporary dance accessible to all.

Taylor 2 Company: At 76, Paul Taylor might be among the most sought-after choreographers in the world.

He brings his dance company to the Edmonds Center for the Arts tonight.

Taylor has conceptualized more than 100 works and has introduced athleticism, humor and a range of emotions into his performances, according to written information about the show.

The program will include works to music by William Boyce, Francis Poulenc, Astor Piazzolla and Jerzy Peterburshsky.

“Two Rooms”: A drama about a hostage crisis situation will be presented next week by Edmonds Community College’s theater arts students.

The show opens Wednesday and runs through Jan. 28.

The play, written in 1988 after a hostage crisis in Lebanon, takes this global situation down to a personal level by seeing it from the perspective of a husband and wife.
