Whatever you may think about the San Antonio Spurs, you can’t deny their continued excellence on the court.
Call them boring. Call them overrated. Call them old. But call them champions, defending branch. The New Orleans Hornets pushed them to the brink, with a 3-3 series and the deciding game in New Orleans. But these are the Spurs. They went on a 12-0 tear in the first half, effectively taking the crowd out of the game, and held on to take it. The Spurs-Lakers Western Conference final should be a corker.
I like the Spurs to advance. They may be boring, but they play the game the way it’s meant to be played. They play with the fundamentals you rarely see in the NBA now. Leave the flash to the Lakers. I’ll take the Spurs’ commitment to defense every time. And Tim Duncan may be one of the top five players of all time.
Off the topic, please send positive energy to Sen. Ted Kennedy, certainly the most effective and influential lawmaker of our generation — maybe of all time. Whatever your politics, you can’t deny his devotion to the betterment of all our lives. The prognosis isn’t good — an aggressive brand of malignant brain tumor — but our thoughts go out to him.
